The season is remembered for the breakthrough of Jude Bellingham, who became the club’s youngest-ever player at 16 years and 38 days when he made his senior debut in the League Cup tie away at Portsmouth in August 2019, breaking Trevor Francis’ record set in 1970. He later became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer, netting the winner against Stoke City on his home debut. Bellingham made 44 appearances and scored four goals before joining Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth over £30 million, after which Birmingham retired the number 22 shirt. The Blues finished 20th in the Championship.
