The maroon away kit with gold trimmings, officially called "zinfandel", was inspired by the one-off shirts worn during City's famous 1956 FA Cup final victory at the old Wembley Stadium. The defending Premier League champions faced a challenging season, finishing as runners-up in the league with 78 points, 11 points behind local rivals Manchester United. Despite the disappointment, City won the FA Community Shield at the season's start, defeating Chelsea 3-2 at Villa Park. The season concluded with manager Roberto Mancini's dismissal on 13 May 2013, marking the end of Umbro's tenure as kit supplier for Manchester City.
