However, the Hong Kong Football Association approved South China's request on 14 June 2006 to remain in the First Division with the promise of strengthening their squad. True to their word, South China achieved an incredible treble in 2006/07, winning the league title (their 28th), the FA Cup, and the Senior Shield. Au Wai Lun, wearing #7, played his final season for South China. The 2006/07 season marked the end of an era with Au's departure.
