It is best remembered for the 2003 League Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium, where Liverpool, in their home red, defeated Manchester United 2–0 with goals from Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen to secure the club’s seventh League Cup title. The shirt also closed an era, as 2003/04 proved to be Gérard Houllier’s final season in charge and Michael Owen’s last at the club before joining Real Madrid, with Liverpool finishing fourth in the Premier League.
