Despite underperforming in Serie A, Inter managed to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they lost to eventual champions Manchester United. This jersey became famous as it was worn by Diego Simeone, who caused Manchester United midfielder David Beckham to be sent off in the 1998 World Cup. The match ended with both players shaking hands and swapping jerseys.
