Kashima won the 1997 J.League First Stage, the Emperor’s Cup, Japanese Super Cup and J.League Cup, although they lost the two-legged Suntory Championship to Júbilo Iwata. A particularly notable match in this home kit came on 29 November, when Kashima beat Júbilo 5–1 at Kashima Soccer Stadium in the second leg of the J.League Cup final to secure the trophy.
