The 2020/21 campaign marked Coventry’s first Championship season in nine years, with Mark Robins’ side securing survival with a 16th-place finish. Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres joined on loan from Brighton in January 2021, scoring three goals in 19 appearances, including a goal on his first home appearance in a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday and a crucial winner away at Stoke City that helped seal survival. His form convinced the club to sign him permanently that summer, beginning his rise to becoming one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.
