Nike’s first Manchester United home shirt used a red base with black side and shoulder panels, a black crew neck and white Vodafone sponsor, marking the beginning of the club’s Nike era. It was worn as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side recovered from an eight-point deficit to win the 2002/03 Premier League, with Ruud van Nistelrooy finishing as the division’s leading scorer on 25 goals. The same design remained in use for 2003/04, Cristiano Ronaldo’s first United season, and was worn in the 2004 FA Cup Final at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, where United beat Millwall 3–0 through Ronaldo’s header and Van Nistelrooy’s two goals to secure a record 11th FA Cup.
